Description

This face mask and filter holder was designed by Rowan University in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is NOT a medical mask. This is for casual use where a cloth or other mask would be appropriate. With the proper filtration system and a secure seal around the face this mask can provide a higher level of protection than a simple cloth mask.

ALL PURCHASES INCLUDE FREE SHIPPING IN THE USA!!!

The design is made to fit snugly over the mouth and nose to help prevent contamination.

It is important to have a secure seal between the vinyl gasket and the user’s face.

Although the model in the image above does have a beard, it is recommended to check the CDC guidelines for effective face masks with different types of facial hair as seen in the PDF document below.

CDC Facial Hair Guidelines

This link will take you to a YouTube video explanation of how to fit and prepare your mask.

Do not assemble the parts until after fitting the mask to your face.

The first step is to heat the mask in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Use an Instant pot or pressure cooker if you have one available.

This will give the mask some flexibility so that it can be molded it to the shape of the individual’s face.

Have a towel or wash cloth or other piece of thick fabric to place over your face to protect your face from the hot mask in order to get the fit correct.

Push hard on all the areas that will be touching your skin to ensure a good seal.

You will want to do this while the mask is still hot and pliable.

If the mask cools too quickly, you can reheat it in the boiling water or use a hair dryer to get it pliable again.

It is VERY important to get a good fit, even though the vinyl gasket will help to make the seal.

When you feel you have a good fit, allow the mask to cool, it will retain the shape of the unique contours of your face.

After the mask has cooled, the next step is to assemble the mask.

Cut the elastic string in half, and thread one end through the attachment loop from the back to the front of the mask and tie off that end securely.

Take the other end of that elastic band and thread it through the other attachment loop on the same side of the mask, making a loop. Tie that end off in the same fashion.

Do the same on the other side of the mask.

Next measure and cut the vinyl gasket. Line the edge of the mask where it will sit on your face. After you get a good length, peel the paper off the adhesive on the vinyl gasket and attach securely to the edge of the mask where it will sit on your face.

This will provide a comfortable place for the mask to rest while sealing the mask so no contamination can enter the mask.

Now, be sure the Hepa filter is cut to the correct size to fit in the filter holder, covering up all the holes in the filter holder.

Push the Hepa filter securely in place inside the filter holder.

Now you can snap the filter holder in place in the front of the mask. It snaps in from the outside. You’ll feel it snap into place making sure it’s all the way snapped in.

The filter holder may wiggle a little bit, however, if it is flush with the front of the mask, it is secure.

Finally, now you can place the mask over your nose and mouth and secure the elastic bands to the ear protector behind your head.

You can use the different hooks on the ear protector to hook the elastic bands to in order to make it tighter or looser so that it fits snugly and comfortably on your face.

Do NOT leave the mask in a hot car, it can melt and deform.

Do wash your mask and filter daily with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

You can easily buy replacement elastic bands, vinyl gaskets and Hepa filters that you can cut to size at any general merchandise store or online.
